Alzheimer’s Disease

According to researchers in dissimilar science, Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia. In his own extensive research into Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, SBL Director Dr. Drew Walker has come to see Alzheimer’s as a form of delirium. He describes delirium as a form of ongoing or intermittent, unhealthy dreaming that goes on outside of sleep.

SBL has produced a series of synbedevels to explore Alzheimer’s disease construed in this way. Foremost amongst them are a man simply named Gabriel (depicted in Walker’s doctoral dissertation Naming the Cause), another named John Birken, and of course Walker himself.

In addition, with the support of SBL between 2011 and 2013, Walker created a kind of diagnostic and experimental human resources tool in the form of a feature film and performance platform called Masks in the Sun.
