Drew Walker (Gabriel Embeha)
Through a continual, mixed media interweaving of acrylic, graphite, digital imagery, performance, film, and writing Drew Walker engages a diverse range of persons, places and things involved in different forms of disability and violence. His process involves an ongoing series of interrelated sacrificial acts and quasi-ethnographic confrontations with scientific representation, the state, conscience, and futility.
Often working under a fictional, social media persona and alter ego named Gabriel Embeha, Walker received an MA in Performance Studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, a PhD in Social/Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University, and is a licensed nurse in the US.
After years working out of New York, he is currently dividing his time and energy between Berlin, Detroit, and a small US Midwestern town in his imagination.
